Filmmakers and digital content creators wanting to get seen will have a a 10 minute chance to do so in an informal, collaborative setting. We want all Digital filmmakers to screen your content and interact. Just show up and sign up, get up and show off. It’s first come, first serve in our “Open Screen Theatre.”

Alex Buono, 10-year veteran Director of Photography for NBC’s Saturday Night Live Film Unit, kicks off the SuperMeet with a real-world perspective and a bit of humor on shooting for broadcast for the weekly live comedy series with Canon EOS DSLR cameras. Alex will be joined by Paul McAniff of Canon, who will introduce Canon’s new XF305 and XF300 professional HD camcorders, featuring 50 Mbps MPEG-2 4:2:2 recording to affordable CF Cards.

– Adobe, Creative Suite 5 Production Premium for FCP Editors
Jason Levine, Adobe Worldwide Product Evangelist will highlight several new features that will be useful for the Final Cut Pro editor (including Round tripping to/from FCP and native DSLR HD video support) in the just announced Production Premium CS5.

- Avid: XDcam and Canon 7D with Avid Media Composer & AMA
Editor Misha Tenenbaum will discuss production from an editor’s point of view and explore his use of the AMA plugin architecture with Sony XDCam HD and Canon EOS 7D cameras for his new show, “Handicapped John.” Misha will explore watching and even editing dailies instantly, while still on location and demonstrate how to save money and avoid potential hassles by offline editing in camera-native HD codecs. Avid Media Composer and AMA brought his post to production.

- Apple, New Developments in ProRes and Stereo 3D
Steve Bayes, Sr. Product Manager for FCP at Apple, returns to the SuperMeet stage to highlight exciting new developments in Apple Partner Support for ProRes and Stereo 3D.

- ARRI: Introducing the ARRI ALEXA Digital Camera
Adrian Widera of ARRI and a special guest will showcase the new ARRI ALEXA Digital Cinema Camera, the only camera of its kind to shoot directly to Apple’s ProRes 422HQ and ProRes 4444 onto SxS Pro cards.

– Blackmagic Design: Interview With Peter Barber
Peter Barber, Director, Blackmagic Design, will show off brand new solutions that Blackmagic Design is expected to announce at NAB.

– Affordable 3D on the Mac for All
2010 is the year of 3D, so Stereo Cinematographer Tim Dashwood of Dashwood Cinema Solutions will show how content creators can affordably capture and edit footage and timelapse in 3D using Canon EOS 7D DSLRs and other cameras. Featured will be 3D footage and a live demo projected on stage.

– iPad for Digital Filmmakers
Director Taz Goldstein of HandHeldHollywood.com will discuss how the iPad will impact filmmaking and show off 5 of the newest, most innovative must-have iApps designed for digital content creators, along with a variety of hardware that’s been developed to support this growing market.

Rounding out the evening will be the always wild and crazy “World Famous Raffle” with currently $82,000.00 worth of prizes to be handed out to dozens of lucky winners, including a Canon EOS 7D DSLR Camera and related HD-DSLR gear, Apple iPad, NLE software and hardware, plug-ins and much more.

San Francisco Supermeet

While in San Francisco, I stopped by the Artbeats booth to meet our sponsor and was invited to take my chance spinning the “Wheel of Fortune” game wheel for a chance at the Grand Prize Jackpot…

So I told Julie, what the heck, why not spin since maybe it will be a good sign of things to come for DCFCPUG!  Well, the picture speaks volumes…. I took home the GOLD prize – JACKPOT FOR DCFCPUG!!! $1,599 worth of HD footage of my choice from ARTBEATS plus a nice umbrella and SWAG T-shirt!!!

Event specifics – Ninth Annual San Francisco SuperMeet to take place on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the University of California San Francisco, Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, CA. Doors open at 3:30PM with a Digital Showcase and presentations begin at 7PM and continue until 11:00PM. This SuperMeet promises to be the single largest gathering of Final Cut Studio, Adobe and Avid editors, gurus and digital filmmakers in the Bay Area for all of 2010.

I also got to tell around 700 attendees on the SuperMeet stage about DCFCPUG and there are a lot other FCP community members interested in US.  Let’s show them we are building our FCP contributors to participate and give back to this awesome gathering of professionals.  You might be on stage with me next time around!

I’m representing our DCFCPUG at the national level in San Francisco this year. I’m registered for the free workshops during the morning and in the afternoon we do a roll call of all FCPUG Leaders around the country. This will be the FIRST year DCFCPUG will be represented. Another milestone for our growing PUG community! Given the epic snow storm descending on the DC area, I can’t complain about the rain here in the Bay Area too much… I just hope I still can fly home as scheduled on Sunday… if not, guess I will just have to tough it out here in the Silicon Valley one more day..

San Francisco Supermeet

Event specifics – Ninth Annual San Francisco SuperMeet to take place on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the University of California San Francisco, Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco, CA. • Canon: Best Workflow for Canon File-Based Cameras
• Canon’s line of EOS HD Video Cameras has created a storm of interest among cinematographers and videographers, using them exclusively as a tool for video acquisition. Joe Bogacz of Canon will present solutions for matching Canon’s file-based cameras with the most functional workflow choices for high-end production.
• Autodesk: Smoke on Mac OS X
• Alexandre Domingue, President of Post-Moderne will show commercial and music video work on Autodesk(R) Smoke(R) on Mac OS(R) X.
• Music Video: “Destroy Me”
• The debut music video from Indie/electro band Lilofee for their single “Destroy Me” was directed by filmmaker Jordan Livingston. The video features all six band members perming amidst eye-popping, post-apocolyptic dreamscapes. Visual Effects and Animation were created by Tony Hudson in extensive collaboration with the visual effects students at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA.
• AJA KiPro and Io Express: A Simple Workflow from Lens to Post
• Jon Thorn of AJA will show off the simplicity of a 10-bit workflow from lens to post using both the AJA KiPro and Io Express. The Ki Pro’s ability to instantly create Apple ProRes files on-set has revolutionized post-production in addition to giving file-based life to a range of tape-based cameras. Io Express, a portable digital i/o with full 10-bit support can be used alongside Ki Pro recordings to monitor and edit files anywhere, at anytime. Jon will demo how the Ki Pro’s included up/down/cross conversion brings unity to a production while providing the most efficient direct-to-edit capabilities in the industry.
• Motion 4 Does 3D
• Apple Motion expert Mark Spencer will show us real honest to goodness 3D by showing how to integrate Motion 4 and Maxon Cinema4D together into your editing workflow.
• The New Speed Tools in Final Cut Pro 7
• Final Cut Studio Guru and author Kevin Monahan returns to the SuperMeet stage to show off the newly improved and much easier to use speed tools in Final Cut Pro 7.
• Top 5 iApps Every Digital Content Creator Must Have
• HandHeldHollywood.com’s Taz Goldstein will show off 5 of the newest, most innovative must-have iApps for the iPhone and iPod Touch designed for digital content creators, along with a variety of hardware that’s been developed to support this growing market.
• Matt Silverman: The Idea behind IDEO’s Living Climate Change
• IDEO CEO Tim Brown needed to tell the world about his latest initiative, LivingClimateChange.com. Bonfire’s Creative Director Matt Silverman convinced IDEO’s senior creative brain-trust to move away from a simple live-action video and created an eclectic motion graphics piece utilizing a combination of live action video, rotoscoping, hand-drawn illustration and animation, 3D animation, and hand-lettered typography.
