    doughboy reading newspaper

Greetings New and Returning DCFCPUG members!:

We have been hard at work planning our “Back to Basics” September meeting. We have been working over the summer establishing a viable process and program to engage our online readership while providing an environment that we can learn, share and explore Apple Pro applications and best of breed industry apps, tricks of the trade and services to improve our workflow in this creative and competitive marketplace.

Invite your friends, associates, colleagues and anyone who is interested in keeping this activity vibrant, and productive.

It takes a lot of work to put these events on for our growing membership (over 222 subscribers!), so if you want this community group to continue, I do ask that you set aside one day each month to attend our meetings and share your knowledge with us…

For what its worth, I have a few special “treats” for those that do in the form of valuable books, software, etc to make your trip and mine worthwhile. It’s more than worth the price of admission! UPDATE: OVER $1,000 worth of goodies to make your workflow work!

So come out and support YOUR meeting!

Our monthly meetings beginning in September will be held at:

    Future Media Concepts
    1627 K Street NW
    Suite 900
    Washington, DC 20006

Doors open at 6:30pm with meeting promptly starting at 7pm.

We have new sponsors, and exciting raffle giveaways that will make the trip worth your time.

The agenda will be posted soon on this main website after its finalized!

Check back daily for any updates and send your greetings to me on Twitter!

Enjoy the Labor Day holiday and wish me well on my well deserved Sept holiday (& birthday)!!

I hope to see a packed house at FMC, and as always take a moment to see what you can do to help our group grow and stay relevant and useful to us all. I’m always looking for a few good reliable volunteers to help run the organization, so if you can support in that way, please send us an email at our rodney@dcfcpug.org address.

Warm regards to all and have a great Labor Day holiday!

    See you on 22 Sept!

    Incentives for Filming in California

Film and Television Production Tax Credit

Financial Incentive — The STAR Partnership

The State Theatrical Arts Resources (STAR) Partnership is a unique program that offers filmmakers access to unused, distinctive State-owned properties (e.g., health facilities, vacant office structures, prisons, etc.) for cost recovery expenses only, thus helping production companies to substantially cut below-the-line expenses. Permits for STAR properties are also obtained through the CFC.

Film and Television Rebate Program – “Scene in San Francisco”

San Francisco offers a refund on all San Francisco payroll taxes paid and a portion of hotel and sales tax paid to the City during production of a Feature Film or Television program.

    Tax Incentives

No State hotel tax on occupancy. Most cities or counties that impose a local hotel tax have a tax exemption for occupancies in excess of 30 days.

Five percent sales tax exemption on the purchase or lease of post-production equipment for qualified persons. (Exemption is taken by the seller of the equipment and passed on to the buyer at the point of purchase.)

    Services Provided

Free permits for California State properties.

No location fees for California State properties. Most properties require reimbursement for monitors.

One-stop film office for California State properties.

On site location library and CinemaScout, (www.cinemascout.org), a web-based location finder for sites throughout California.

On site California Highway Patrol (CHP) Film Liaison available to assist with filming on State freeways and highways. This liaison also arranges CHP officers to monitor film shoots.

On site California State Fire Marshal available to provide advice and approval for pyrotechnics and other special effect permits for State properties.

Coordination with more than 55 in-state film commissions. CFC will e-mail your customized location requests to designated film commission offices.

    Production and troubleshooting assistance.
