• Forum Help!

Ok, cutter-blogger-author-wanna-be’s, here’s your chance.  We can’t compete with the Apple Discussion Forums, and we aren’t Creative Cows.  But it’s time to get a little local FCP chatter going.  So, if you fit any of the categories below, please email us so we can get these forums running.  We have a couple interested takers, but we need a critical mass (say, a dozen or so actual committed posters!) before we can go public with any dignity.

Moderator:  You like checking in to the forum frequently and doing everything from adding substantive content to putting the hose on nasty virtual feuds.  You should have experience and skill with FCP, so you can at least pretend to be an expert.

Contributor:  You are willing to spend some time on the forums, at least initially.  You want to fire off some original posts as well as responses to other contributors.  Experience and skill with FCP is a bonus, but all you really need is an internet connection, a willingness to post/beta-test and an understanding of the QWERTY keyboard.

Web Dude/Dudette:  Some back-end help is always appreciated, especially once we start identifying forum bugs.  If you have skills and understanding related to WordPress, BB Press forums and related “behind the scenes” issues, your help is most welcome.  There will be more serious vetting for these positions.

So, those are the openings.  Surely, there are FCP’ophiles interested in building their local DC metro area community.

Email us with your desired position today!  (As in, right now!  Why wait?)

POSTPONED: The next meeting of the DCFCPUG – originally scheduled for July 29, 2008 in Georgetown, DC – has been postponed. We will announce the rescheduled meeting in the near future.

Our apologies to anyone inconvenienced by this postponement, and our thanks to CDIA for offering to host.

Should DCFCPUG.org add a forums page?

Our user group quickly amassed an impressive number of members, and the first meeting had a surprisingly good turnout (thanks to lots of help from industry stalwarts). But, are users looking for forums here? Or are the Apple, Creative Cow, 2-Pop and other global forums enough to scratch everyone’s itch?

Personally, I see potential for a forum containing discussions about the local scene, and maybe filling in some holes left open by the bigger forums (which can be impersonal on occasion). That said, nothing is more pathetic than a page full of forums that sit fallow – populated only with a few lonely posts by the moderators, who try desperately to invite debate.

So, forums or no forums? Please vote by adding your Comments below.

  • DCFCPUG goes to Apple WWDC

Two of our newest DCFCPUG members are learning the very latest developments concerning the foundations on which all Apple and third party applications depend every day. Look for the 3G iPhone, Snow Leopard OS among other cool and innovative features to give us more tools to maximize our digital lifestyles.

Our members are in the company of the former forty-fifth Vice President of the United States, Al Gore, who also attended the week long event in San Francisco as a member of the audience. As a Director on the Board of Apple, Inc and a prominent environmental activist, Mr. Gore no doubt kept the Secret Service busy at the event – which had 5,200 people in the crowd.

You can see the keynote in QT or HD at WWDC Keynote Address.

I’ve included an iPod low-res QT of the highlights if you don’t want to watch the full Apple video.
