    MacVoices#1068 audio podcast

Listen to The Talk of the Mac Community – MacVoices with Chuck Joiner as he interviews Dan Berube [Left in Photo] of BOSFCPUG and Mike Horton of Los Angeles FCPUG on the upcoming NAB show and FCPUG SUPERMEET. Around audio marker ~00:31:40, you will hear Dan talk about the DCFCPUG and fact that my SuperMag article was chosen to lead on Page 1 of the SUPER MAGAZINE for Issue 4, 2010!  I was totally honored to hear about that selection since there were over 50 contributors from all over the world in this edition!

This is great visibility for us as a growing PUG and it gives us all more exposure on the big, worldwide stage. Don’t forget to watch the SUPERMEET live on the 13th April at:

Any DC FCP members going to NAB this year? Want a shot at working on a production team in Las Vegas?

I’ve got an opportunity for our members to get some experience with an FCP expert and his production team producing the NAB newscast and other coverages. You won’t be alone… I’ll also be on the team. ;-)

Let me know if you are interested asap.

from p20 of Final Cut Pro Killer Secrets

It theoretically *should* apply to the IoHD but I’m not 100% sure.

    ============
The Voiceover Tool makes it possible to record a voiceover clip directly into a sequence. This is fine if you’re recording a narration to picture, but there are times when it’s more useful to do an open-ended audio capture which you’ll edit together later on.

So you’ve opened the Log and Capture window, set up the microphone, disabled video capture and pressed the Capture Now button. After a couple of seconds, the capture stops. Huh? What’s going on?

The usual reason this happens is that even though the disable video in the Clip Settings tab of the Log and Capture window, Final Cut Pro still expects a video signal and if it doesn’t see one then the capture is aborted.

A solution is to set up a dedicated capture preset that you only use for voiceover recording.

1    Choose Final Cut Pro > Audio/Video Settings > Capture Presets tab.
2    Locate the current capture preset in the list and click the Duplicate button.
3    Change the name of the duplicated preset to a suitable name such as “Voiceover”.
4    Change the Video Digitizer to “None”.
5    Change the Audio device to the desired input and click OK.

Next time you want to record a voiceover, select this preset in the Capture Settings tab of the Log and Capture window and you should find that you can capture audio only without any problems.

Adobe really illustrates the power of searchable metadata to include the transcribing of video audio that is searchable… (Speech search) Learn more about XMP (eXtensible Metadata platform) within Adobe Bridge and CS4 to more efficiently track/search your assets.

Watch and learn… pretty slick, frame accurate dialogue!  A real timesaver! Now video can be searchable by the big search engines…

(Successful post-production requires solid production. Here is one in a series of production tutorials designed to improve the ultimate edit.)

The oft-stated yet still under- appreciated reality is that audiences will forgive mediocre video but not sub-standard sound. Solid audio recording offers better choices in post-production, and separates your work from that of an amateur.

Listed below are the steps to set up an external condenser microphone, a basic field mixer and a prosumer camcorder – specifically, audio-technica’s AT8035 Line + Gradient Condenser Microphone, Sound Devices’ 302 Compact Production Mixer and Canon’s XH-A1 high definition camcorder – to capture audio in the field.
