World’s best headshot photographer, Peter Hurley brings a Red Epic into his photography studio to test it against his H3D-22 Hasselblad medium format camera. Can a 5k video camera at 24fps produce an image equal to or better than his 22 megapixel still camera?
Can high resolution video keep up with or out perform high resolution photography?
Below are two high resolution images from the headshot session. The first image is from the 22mp Hasselblad H3D-22 and the second image is from the 14mp Red Epic.

RED EPIC
UPDATED WITH PETER’S Full RES FILES! New cameras are getting faster and faster each year. In over a decade DSLRs have gone from 6 fps to 12 fps, and now many can shoot 60 frames of HD video. We’ve all heard it before, “At some point photographers will just shoot video and pull the best frame out” but is this really even feasible?

Title: Two Forty from Brighton
For all the info you need visit my blog post here: philipbloom.net/?p=24990
Shot on a pre-production Sony NEX FS700. The image of the final production model may not be the same as what you see here.
Filmed at mostly 240FPS with 3 480FPS shots (Sarah with the pebble/ pebbles). For more on the frame rate the blog post is the place to go!
Made for the FS700 independent video review which I will release on Friday with loads of BTS as to how I shot the shots!
There is NO story. It’s me shooting and capturing moments that are missed normally but at 240fps you miss nothing! Sit back, relax and enjoy a little trip to the English seaside on an overcast Saturday!
Thanks to Sony Europe for loan of the camera and the music bed for the great music
