Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Gemma Ward… awesome….

We are a “Pirates of the Caribbean” film series fan in my household… and now we have another reason to watch it.

Congrats to actress, Van Vander Pluym and her current stunt work on Pirates 4! A few of us DCFCPUG members got to work with Vanessa over the summer on the feature film, “At the Top of the Pyramid”!

Keep up the good work, Vanessa and I’ll be sure to keep the lines of communication open since one day you might stop in to visit us at the DCFCPUG!     ;-)

We will be watching you on True Blood, Pirates , etc

For more on Vannessa’s work, go to her site at: Vanessa Vander Pluym

    Tip of the Day!

Final Cut Pro – Changing Render Codecs

This is important if you are working in HDV, XDCAM HD, or XDCAM EX.

Sequence Settings - Render and Playback

Normally, it is a good idea to render your effects and transitions in the same video format you are editing.

However, for some video formats which use a GOP compression scheme, such as HDV, XDCAM HD, XDCAM EX, changing your render settings can both improve quality and allow your renders to be completed faster.

To change your render settings, go to Sequence > Settings > Render Control tab.

Then, change the Codec pop-up menu from Same as Sequence Codec to Apple ProRes 422.

Making this change has two significant benefits: higher quality and significantly faster render times.

It also has one downside, your render files will be about 4 times bigger than your source files.

If disk space is really limited, don’t do this. Otherwise, I strongly recommend it.
