My role will be a technical role as the HD Video engineer for the Video Village.  The Video Village is the mobile nerve center of the production, with HD video monitors setup to provide the camera eye view from the camera feeds and the audio to the headsets to listen to the dialogue as picked up by the microphones, on set. This is where the top brass sit to monitor the action live.

We are shooting with a pair of Panasonic HPX3700 P2 HD VariCam Cinematography Camcorders (list price at $60K each)

    Shooting at 1920 x 1080 with the AVC-Intra 100 codec, 10 bit, 4:2:2…

Final details of whether we shooting at 24Pn, 30P or some other variant is forthcoming.

If you are wondering what footage looks like when shooting with this high end camcorder, check out this link: P2 HD VariCam Demo Footage

Supporting the Unit Production Manager, HD Varicam P2 camera department and the Director of Photography (DP), his assistant, the Digital Imaging Technician and the camera operators, I will be the engineering lead for setting up the “Video Village”.

Here are what similar “video village” setups look like on other production sites on the Internet.

This should be enough to give you a sense of what I am about to embark on for the next few weeks. What a creative way to use vacation time from my normal engineering “day job”…

Looking forward to sharing my experiences ….

    Have a great week!
