Final Cut Pro – Fun With the Anchor Point

The anchor point controls more than rotation – check this out and see.

    Anchor Point

Have you ever wondered what the Anchor Point does in the Motion tab? Well, let’s find out.

First, load an image you want to manipulate from the Timeline into the Viewer. Select the Canvas, and in the View menu, choose Image+Wireframe.

The white dot that appears connected to the center of your image is the anchor point.

Select the Distort tool (press D) Then, drag the point to move it.

    Now for some fun:

    • Rotate your image – notice that it rotates around the anchor point.
    • Drag the Scale slider and watch how the image scales from it’s original position and gradually recedes into the anchor point.
    • Try changing both rotation and scale at the same time.
