Final Cut Pro – Sharpening Your Stills
Sharpening adds the appearance of focus to stills

update
Looking to add a bit of “snap” to a still image? Try using the Unsharp filter.
Note: Be VERY cautious adding sharpening to video – most inexpensive cameras apply sharpening during recording to improve the apparent focus of an image.
Go to Effects > Video Filters > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask and try settings of: Amount = 75, Radius = 0.5, and Threshold = 0.
(The default settings for this filter are, shall we say, AWFUL!)
Use this carefully, lest you make the edges too harsh.
