    Tip of the Day!

Final Cut Pro – Superimposing Text Clips

Here’s a faster way to superimpose text clips into the Timeline.

    update

When using text clips in FCP, try superimposing them instead of editing them to the Timeline.

    Here’s how:

    1. Put your playhead in the middle of the clip into which you want to key text.

    2. Connect the left patch panel tab (from the Viewer) to the same track as the clip your playhead is in. Usually this means v1> V1.

    3. Generate your text from the Viewer pop-up menu.

    4. Superimpose your text by dragging it from the Viewer to the Canvas > Superimpose overlay menu.

This process automatically superimposes your text clip and trims it to the same length as the clip your playhead is in.

    • How to run Photoshop CS5 in 32-bit and 64-bit modes

Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS was reworked on a fundamental level to be able to run as a 64-application under the 64-bit versions of Mac OS. Because of this, old and 32-bit plug-ins won’t run, can return errors, or cause crashes when you use them in either the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Photoshop. See below for instructions on how to open Photoshop CS5 in 64-bit and 32-bit modes.

As with all previous versions of Photoshop, do not copy old third-party plug-ins, or plug-ins from previous versions of Photoshop, into the plug-ins folder under Photoshop CS5, on Mac OS or Windows. If you have set the Additional Plug-Ins Folder in the Plug-Ins preferences to a folder, deselect this option, or make sure all the plug-ins in this folder are compatible with Photoshop CS5. Contact third-party plug-in manufacturers for versions of their plug-ins that are compatible with Photoshop CS5, 32-bit or 64-bit.

Looks like a long road to having compatible plug-ins to support the new CS5 apps…
