    Tip of the Day!

Final Cut Pro – Multitrack Rippling

Rippling multiple tracks is easy – provided you know this technique.

    Multitrack Ripple

This is a good technique when you need to ripple the In or Out of a talking head, while keeping the B-roll in sync. (A Ripple adjusts either the In, or Out, of one clip.)

In this example, we want to adjust the Out of the clip on V1, but not have the clip on V2 go out of sync with the clip below it.

    Here’s how:

    1. Turn Snapping off by pressing N.

    2. Select the Ripple tool by pressing RR.

    3. Using the Ripple tool, click the Out of the video clip on V1.

    4. Hold the Command key and click the In of the clip on V2 to select it.

    5. Finally, drag the Ripple tool left or right to trim your edit. This adjusts the audio and video Ins and Outs of all selected clips at once so that everything stays in sync; as indicated by the clip markers.

    Very cool.
