    Tip of the Day!

Soundtrack Pro – Return to Start

I wish Final Cut Pro had this trick

To get back to the beginning of a Soundtrack Pro project, just press RETURN.
To play from the beginning of a Soundtrack Pro project, press SHIFT + RETURN.
May you have many happy returns.

    • Actually, FCP does have a keystroke that will return you to the beginning of a timeline; press the “Home” key on your keyboard. For a return & play deal, you could either hit home and play, or play and home, in the case of the latter the cursor will jump during playback. Of course, if you have a really long and/or dense (heavy effects or layers) timeline, FCP may have to do a little thinking before it starts playing from the beginning. Hope that helps.

    • David:

This is a good comment. Keep in mind that laptops only have a Home key when you use the left arrow and Fn keys together.

      Return is much cooler.

    • Hi Larry, thanks for the follow-up. Good point on laptops; I was thinking from the perspective of those of us who are usually “tethered to our towers” while editing in FCP. (As I’ve been doing a lot of recently.)

Return is definitely cooler (and easier to find), though I suppose you could get used to hitting Fn-left arrow with regular use and practice.

      Thanks,
      David
