James May shows us what’s it like to view the world from the U2 cruising at 70K ft as the sky above turns to the black of space. While I’ve never worked directly with a U2, I have supported the SR-71 “Blackbird” in my United States Air Force career and watched the final flight to Washington Dulles before it was cleaned and prepared for viewing at the newest Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Dulles, VA (adjacent to the Washington Dulles International Airport). Here is a fact I bet you didn’t know: I am one of the original Air and Space Dulles docents (a teacher/lecturer) that opened the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum at the airport at Dulles. My picture along with other docents is in the group photo in the main office. Â
