    Walter E Washington Convention Center

I want to thank all the members who responded to the request for support of the GVExpo Digital Production BuZZ. This is THE OFFICIAL PODCAST for the GVExpo. The selected DCFCPUG members will be supporting Larry Jordan and his team in his BOOTH at the Expo while getting paid to support! ;-) A Win-Win Scenario for all…

GV Expo is being held at the Walter E Washington Convention Center on December 1st to 3rd.

Good Luck and don’t forget to mention DC Final Cut Pro User Group during the event!!!

Larry Jordan is scheduled to be at our FEBRUARY 2010 User Group Meeting so start thinking of those hard to solve problems to ask the expert… See if you can stomp the Expert…. ;-)

  • Ride on a U2 Spy plane

James May shows us what’s it like to view the world from the U2 cruising at 70K ft as the sky above turns to the black of space. While I’ve never worked directly with a U2, I have supported the SR-71 “Blackbird” in my United States Air Force career and watched the final flight to Washington Dulles before it was cleaned and prepared for viewing at the newest Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Dulles, VA (adjacent to the Washington Dulles International Airport). Here is a fact I bet you didn’t know: I am one of the original Air and Space Dulles docents (a teacher/lecturer) that opened the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum at the airport at Dulles. My picture along with other docents is in the group photo in the main office.

  • Meeting with Clayton LeBouef – Playwright, Actor and Producer

Just a heads up, I’ve started a dialog with an actor and one of our DCFCPUG members on a project that the extended DCFCPUG community may want to contribute to as it develops/matures into it’s final products (feature film, play, documentary and webisodic series on the Internet).

He invited me to his home on Saturday in Washington DC and we discussed the project(s). Check Clayton’s pedigree on IMBD. As a veteran of the stage and film, he has what it takes to succeed in the entertainment business.  Given the concepts for the next project, it very well could be the next PRECIOUS.

Stay tuned for more as things develop….

  • Fear Zero – A Douglas Spotted Eagle story of Perseverance

DSE prepping to Jump from plane

A quick search on Google will confirm the “celebrity” status that surrounds the man known as Douglas Spotted Eagle or SPOT for short. I met SPOT in the early days of the Vegas NLE product line and see him from time to time in Los Angeles, Las Vegas (NAB) or at GVExpo in Washington DC.  When he not teaching or editing, he is an avid skydiver!

After learning of his accident (June 8, 2009) and journey to recovery this year, I thought you all might be inspired by his painful journey to recovery. Start here and follow the link:  Read the series and share your thoughts…

SPOT is scheduled for the GVExpo (look under Conference Sessions by Day) then scroll down for seven matches for “Douglas Spotted Eagle”.

He is truly a man to admire for his courage.  I am blessed to know him and call him a friend.

May we all start our daily walk in life – Fearing ZERO.

  • Smoke on a Mac

After looking at this week’s news on FxGuide.com…

How many of our DCFCPUG members work with the Smoke system? With Autodesk’s 2010 “software only” edition of Smoke on Mac, what impact does this have on your workflow incorporating Smoke? For ~15K plus ~2K (subscription/support), its not “cheap”….but it’s definitely cheaper than the Linux based Smoke product at ~40K or the advanced edition at ~90K.

I thought the odd thing about a system that costs this much is the fact that it only operates on a SINGLE, 1920 x 1200 monitor. Oh, and it needs 500MB/sec storage I/O as well….

    Watch the details here.

    Thoughts?
